What conditions can be treated with orthotics?
Orthotics may be prescribed by your Doctor, or may be recommended by a Pedorthist, Physical Therapist, or Chiropractor to treat a number of medical conditions such as:
Arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis may cause discomfort and poor positioning in your feet. Orthotics may help correct this issue..
Back pain. Often poor positioning of the feet, including as arches that roll inward, or lack of proper footwear or support can cause back pain, which orthotics can lessen.
Bunions. Orthotics with a wide toe box can help to reduce pressure on the big toe caused by painful bunions..
Bursitis. Orthotics with heel and arch support can help to reduce bursitis discomfort caused by inflammation of fluid-filled sacs in the heels and toes.
Diabetes. Diabetes can cause a person to lose sensation in their feet, known as diabetic neuropathy. Orthotics can help to reduce excess stress and pressure when this occurs, helping to prevent foot ulcers or more serious complications.
Flat feet. Collapsed arches or Flat feet can cause foot, ankle, and back pain. Orthotics can help to eliminate this pain by supporting the feet and promoting proper foot and body positioning.
Hammer toes. Hammer toes may often occur as a side effect of bunions on the big toe. They cause second-toe pain and deformities on the ball of the foot. Orthotics can provide additional support to the feet and reduce the likelihood that hammer toes will worsen.
Heel spurs. Heel spur is a condition resulting in excess bone growth on the back or bottom of the heel. Orthotics will support your foot and reduce inflammation from heel spurs.
High arches. Very high arches can stress muscles in the feet and lead to a number of conditions, such as shin splints, knee pain, and plantar fasciitis. Orthotics help prevent a person’s feet from rolling excessively inward or outward.
Injuries. When a person experiences trauma to the feet and ankles, orthotics provide extra support required during the healing process.
Plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. Doctors often recommend orthotics to support the heel and foot and alleviate or eliminate pain cause from this condition. (Learn more)
